FAST FACT #1
The spice cinnamon is helpful for controlling weight and diabetes.

Cinnamon warms the body and enhances digestion, especially the metabolism of fats. It has been proven to help in weight management. Cinnamon seems to have an insulin like effect, enhancing the satiety center of our brain while also reducing blood sugar and cholesterol levels.

Cinnamon, along with ginseng and tea are shown to help increase insulin receptivity. This can help those individuals with diabetes.

How much do you need? As little as a ½ tsp a day can increase insulin receptivity by over 50%!

Find ways to add cinnamon into your diet. Try sprinkling it on top of low fat cottage cheese, into hot drinks such as tea or hot cocoa or fruit juices, sprinkle it on top of toast or cereal in the morning, or on various fruits such as apples. Be creative!

FAST FACT #2
Your liver is the organ most responsible for your metabolism.

The liver is the largest gland in the human body. It plays an important part in metabolism of carbohydrates, fats, and proteins. It also performs other functions such as storage of glycogen, fat, and certain vitamins; secretion of bile, synthesis of proteins; and detoxification or destruction of harmful or unwanted substances.

Feasting allows are livers to store excess sugar as glycogen, so we can access energy without eating for hours. Once glycogen stores are full, we save the excess energy as fat. We want to be careful of spiking our blood sugar ( by eating highly processed foods such as white bread or sweets) to rapidly which raises our levels of insulin. This drives the sugar in to the muscle, livers and fat to be used or stored as fat. Eating quality carbohydrates such as fruits, vegetables, and whole grains do not spike our blood sugar.

Many people think that the thyroid gland is responsible for metabolism. The main function of the thyroid hormone is to regulate the metabolism of your cells. That is the chemical changes in your cells that cause them to live, grow, and die.
